And inspirational speaker, self-help advocate, New Age guru and New York Times best-selling author are among a few of them.
As the author of 30 books, creator of audio and video programs and frequent guest on television and radio shows, Dyer has been inspiring people to better themselves for decades.
On Monday, the man nicknamed the “Father of Motivation” by his fans will give a 7 p.m. lecture at The Ranch in Loveland.
The self-development program will use ideas from his latest book, “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life,” and Dyer said anyone should attend who wants to be entertained and “inspired to become all that they were destined to be.”
Focusing on teachings from the Tao Te Ching, a 2,500-year-old Chinese text, Dyer said the lecture and his book will show others how to transcend the roles assigned to them.
“People are preoccupied with putting labels on things,” he stated.
“I’m male, I’m female. I’m old, I’m young. I’m a Republican, I’m a Democrat — all those labels negate who you really are.
“Your true essence is an invisible, divine, infinite being that’s trapped in a little physical body that comes and goes.”
And don’t call it New Age.
After all, he noted, how could the ancient Chinese teachings be seen as new?
Oh, and labeling it “religious” is out, too.
“I wouldn’t call it religious at all. I would use the word ‘spiritual.’ It’s nondenominational; it excludes no one.”
Whatever it is, Dyer hopes the ideas will help people realize what really makes them who they are.
“It’s really just about being a better person and living a higher level of consciousness and realizing the genius that you have within yourself.”
By unlocking the chains of labels and assignments, Dyer said, a person can relieve depression, anxiety, fears and suffering.
And people realize they are not their body, their achievements or their accumulations, he said, then they can find who (and what) they really are.
“You’re not really here as a human being having a spiritual experience. In fact, it’s the other way around.
“All of us are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
In the end, he hopes people will find “We’re not alone because we’re being guided by divine guidance, and that all is well in the world.”
A bit too much to take in? The man without labels hopes to explain it all in his lecture.
